The Man with the Golden Spray Gun

One of our ChipsAway franchisees got more than he bargained for, when he was asked to help with some maintenance work on an AstonMartin DB5 which was driven by Sean Connery during filming as JamesBond.

Rob Stewart, who runs ChipsAway in Marlowe, was recommended by abusiness colleague to help with the restoration of the car ahead ofits UK tour and auction in Monaco. He spent four hours working onthe £280K car which was completely restored during 2010/11.

The DB5 featured in GoldFinger and Thunderball, and is one ofthe most famous cars of all time. Complete with bullet proof backand front windows, battering rams and an ejector seat, this is theultimate accessory car for a slick operator such as James Bondhimself.  A silver DB5 is also rumoured to have been seen nearto the filming set of the latest James Bond movie, Skyfall, so itis anticipated that the car may well be making a reappearance.

Rob who has nine years experience in the minor automotive repairindustry said:

"It was an honour to be asked to work on such a beautiful andiconic car. The job took four hours with eight people watching andinvolved me having to get in the boot at one point, not bad for aseventy year old!  I am eagerly awaiting the release ofSkyfall and will be looking out for Daniel Craig behind thewheel."

Connections  -  Can You help Steve ?  let us know

Hello, I am trying to pinpoint who first owned my white 1967 Jaguar Mk2 Saloon, which, according to a production trace certificate, was originally sold to a firm in Marlow under the name of "Clanson Office Equipment Ltd." in January of 1967.  The production certificate interestingly states that the car was registered in Chalfont Saint Giles under the same company name, some 25 minutes away from Marlow.  While the car could have been a salesman's car, it could also have been the owner's car (who may have lived in Chalfont Saint Giles and signed the car off under the company name).  Nevertheless, the firm does not exist in the area anymore, and I don't have any sources I can go to, since I live in the United States.  However, a recent website business history listing (http://www.cdrex.com/clanson-office-equipment-limited-1425436.html) mentions that the business occupied a large brick building at 81 Station Road in Marlow, and that the business was incorporated in 1964, some 3 years before the car was purchased.

I will greatly appreciate any help from any individuals who may have known a man by the name of "Clanson" who either resided in Chalfont Saint Giles and had a white Jag to commute to his firm in Marlow, or anyone who may have remembered this white Jag.  The folks over at the Chalfont Saint Giles council even went as far as to publish my inquiry in their local newspaper, but had no luck in pinpointing the original owner.  Perhaps you all can help answer this 44 year old question.  Once again, any help would be appreciated.

Here is a photograph of the 1967 Jaguar Mk2 saloon in question, whose home was Chalfont St. Giles, Marlow, and the surrounding areas (according to record), and now resides in California, USA.

Many thanks.

Best Regards,
Steve Stone

Have You a Marlow story to share?
Introducing  baby Marlow

Hi there,
I am writing you from Toronto, Ontario where I live with my husband and 4 monthold daughter.
I grew up in Canada but my grandparents lived for 50 years in Bourne End and each summer they would bring me to Marlow where I would play in the park and have tea at Burgers.  I have been visiting Marlow every year for 39years!  These are some of my happiest childhood memories and I decided to name my daughter Marlow. The Toronto Star newspaper recently did a piece about how my daughter got her name and we thought you might be interested:
